The Laughing Stock
Once again, it is the festival time, late nights, great shows and a buzzing
Edinburgh. If you are going to the old town to enjoy the festival ambiance, we
can recommend a great place to grab a bite.
The Laughing Stock, our clients, serves the best of British street food at the Underbelly in Bristo Square during the festival time. Go and see them, you won't be disappointed.

Bill McLaren Foundation Celeb Am 2013
One of our clients is Lindsay Lawson, Bill McLaren's granddaughter and event coordinator at Bill McLaren Foundation.
The foundation was set up to raise funds to support the development of Rugby and its values. We should like to make you aware of one of their upcoming events, the Celeb Am Golf Tournament at Hawick Golf Club on Friday 9 August (entry details below).

Broomhouse Health Strategy Group
The Broomhouse Health Strategy Group is a community led health project that was set up in 1993 by a group of local volunteers. The aim is to enable the residents of Broomhouse, Sighthill and Parkhead, recognised as low income areas in SW Edinburgh, to have easy access to fresh fruit and vegetables. It has since remained a small local charity, run by 29 volunteers, supported by three part time workers and one sessional worker.
They run a Fruit & Veg Co-op, have Free Cookery Classes and provide a Drop-in Health Service among all the other organised events and activities. You can find all about them in their own words, by checking out their website.
We were appointed as
accountants for the Health Strategy Group in 2011 and are full of admiration
for the work they do for the people of Broomhouse and surrounding areas. On a
recent visit, we were delighted by the colourful paintings all around their
co-op shop and thought we should share some of their story with you.
After being awarded over
250 litres of paint from Dulux, the Broomhouse Health Strategy Group
commissioned an artist to draw up designs for painting over 450m2 of surface
area around their community shop! The practical work took place over three
weeks and was carried out by around 60 local residents and business volunteers
contributing over 200 hours!
It’s an amazing example of community empowerment – the local community came together to make it happen. The result is not just a colourful facelift, but also an increase in social connections within the community, with some very proud active local volunteers and a local community that has had its self- esteem significantly raised.

Welcome to Bolland & Burke C.A.'s blog.
So what is the need for a small firm of accountants to have a blog?
Before you assume that we just have too much free time, let us explain why we think this is a good idea.
Most of our clients are small owner-managed businesses and we feel somewhat responsible for promoting them and helping them grow.
In the past we have often sent out emails promoting events hosted by our clients and where possible, we have referred our clients to one another for specific services/products. This blog is set up to do the same thing but to reach a larger audience - to promote our clients' businesses/charitable activities and to let our readers know about interesting upcoming events. We would also try to regularly post tax and accounting tips to keep our readers up to date with some of the topics that are most relevant to small businesses.
If you are a client and would like to post anything on this blog, please get in touch.
If you would like to receive our updates by e-mail, you can easily submit your email address on the right hand side of this blog. Please also like our Facebook Page.
We hope you like it :)
